Frequently Asked Questions

Explore Norfolk UK Walking Holidays

Why book with Explore Norfolk UK rather than booking it myself?

We live in Norfolk, and so know this county better than anyone, and have an overwhelming passion to pass on to you how beautiful this part of the UK is.  We know how busy you can be with everyday life, our aim is to relieve you of making sure you’ve booked everything you should and to make your walking holiday as enjoyable as we know it should be.

What makes us special is that we are a truly Norfolk business, with Norfolk at the heart of our thoughts when it comes to putting together your Norfolk walking holiday.  Explore a part of the the UK that you don't know, but that we can help you get to know!

We know from experience quite how long it takes to find accommodation, then check it's OK, whether it has good reviews, check its in the right location etc. We can take all that hassle away from you.

We take great care in selecting the accommodation choices for you and have inspected each and every one, as well as personally meeting the owners/managers.  We will provide detailed information of how to reach the accommodation; we will arrange your luggage transfer and we will send you a pack of maps, guidebooks and itineraries for your trip.

We know that after a hard day’s walk, all you want to be thinking about is a soaking your feet and getting some decent food to eat, not whether you’ve remembered to confirm your booking, or whether your luggage has arrived.  You can rest assured that with us, everything will be thought of.  You can review the concept of our Norfolk walking holidays here.

Can I change the dates of my holiday once I’ve booked?

Please let us know as soon as possible if you do have to change your holiday dates.  Up to 8 weeks before the start date, it is usually possible to change your dates although we do charge £20 admin fee per person to cover the amount of work involved in cancelling accommodation and then re-booking.  Less than 56 days notice before the start of your holiday is considered as a cancellation of your original booking.

Any cancellation of the holiday must be made to us in writing by recorded mail.  Cancellation charges will apply:
More than 56 days prior to the start of your holiday – the deposit of £100 per person will be retained
Between 55 and 29 days prior to the start of your holiday – 50% of the total cost of the holiday
Between 28 and 15 days prior to the start of your holiday – 75% of the total cost of the holiday
14 days or less – 100% of the total cost of the holiday
No refund can be given for cancellation on the day the holiday starts or whilst on holiday.

We recommend cancellation insurance to cover the eventuality that you cancel on the day the holiday start as no refund can be given.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for further information.

Can I travel on my own?

Yes, you can travel on your own, but you will be charged a single supplement fee to cover single room or single occupancy of twin or double rooms, baggage transfer for one and the maps and book for one.  This will work out at approximately £45 per night additional cost.  We will try and keep the costs down for this.

GENERAL INFORMATION

When are the trails available?

The Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path  are available all year round.

All other holidays are available from April-October inclusive.

Do I have to start my walk on a certain day of the week?

No, you can start and finish your walk whenever is convenient to you.  Having said that, weekends are much busier and accommodation in the summer months gets very booked up, particularly on the Norfolk Coast.  Also bear in mind that the stately homes have opening hours and usually have one day a week when they are closed.

Where can I find more details about each walk?

There is more detail on each of the walks on the Norfolk Coast Path, Norfolk Coast Path and Peddars Way, Peddars Way  and Norfolk Stately Homes pages under the options tabs.  It gives a more detailed itinerary of what you'll see.

What’s included in the price?

For the Norfolk Coast Path and Peddars Way walks

Accommodation in rooms of your choice (single/double/twin) in hotels, pubs, guesthouses or bed and breakfasts chosen by ourselves for quality, friendliness and comfort.  We want you to have a good experience in all the places you stay in.
Breakfast from the accommodation provider.  We don’t arrange packed lunches or evening meals.  However, we can let the accommodation owner know whether you would like a packed lunch (usually at a cost of about £5-7.50 per person) and we will also give you options for lunches and dinners in your pack.
Luggage Transfer between overnight stays (one bag under 18kg per person)
OS Explore Maps or the A to Z OS booklet and an excellent guidebook which you will find more than useful.
An Explore Norfolk pack with information on how to reach the accommodation, local restaurants and pubs near each accommodation and ideas for lunch.
Contact information in case of emergency
An itinerary and accommodation details and contact telephone numbers.

For the Stately Homes Walks

An itinerary.

Do you provide maps and guidebooks for the trails?

Yes, for the walks applicable, we provide the A to Z OS booklet for the Norfolk Coast Path and Peddars Way, as well as the excellent guidebook on the Norfolk Coast Path and the Peddars Way by Alexander Stewart.  With maps and this book, you can’t go wrong!  If you already have these, we will deduct them from your overall holiday cost.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, in most cases you can.  Please let us know and we will check that you are booked into dog friendly accommodation.  You may be charged a fee for your pet, and an extra luggage transfer fee will be charged for moving dog beds and crates.

Bear in mind that if you are walking the Norfolk Stately Homes walk, the houses usually do not allow dogs.

Do I need travel insurance?

As with all holidays, it is strongly recommended that you take out the appropriate travel insurance prior to your holiday to cover such eventualities as personal accident, illness and loss/theft of personal possessions as well as cancellation of your trip.

ACCOMMODATION AND LUGGAGE

Do I need to book accommodation for the first and last night of the trip?

No, the price includes accommodation on the night before your first walk and when you finish your walk at the end of your holiday.

What sort of accommodation will I be booked into?

We take great care in selecting the accommodation choices for you and have inspected each and every one, as well as meeting the owners/managers.  These range from hotels to pubs to guesthouses and bed and breakfasts. The Peddars Way walk has fewer accommodation choices, so we have done our best to select the most comfortable and friendly, but this sometimes means you may have shared or private bathrooms rather than ensuite.  We let you know if this is the case and to check that you are happy with this arrangement.

If you wish, we can provide luxury accommodation in many of the smart hotels in Norfolk (particularly on the Norfolk Coast), this will obviously entail a higher charge per person for the holiday, but we can quote for this, should you wish.

What meals will be provided?

Breakfast will always be provided, either full English or continental, depending on what you like.  Lunches and evening meals are not provided for the Norfolk Coast Path and Peddars Way walks.  For stretches of the Peddars Way there are very few places to stop, so packed lunches can be arranged at extra cost from many of the accommodation owners.  Evening meals can often be provided at extra costs depending on the accommodation owner.  If they don’t offer this, they will suggest places you can eat at locally and most of the accommodation is close to local pubs or restaurants.  Some accommodation owners will take you to the local pub for your evening meal.

For the Norfolk Stately Homes walk, 2 dinners will be provided on the first and last night, as well as breakfast on all 4 mornings.

Are vegetarians and food allergies provided for?

Yes, you must advise us at time of booking about any dietary requirements you have.

Do you arrange luggage transfer?

Yes, we arrange luggage transfer if you book a walking holiday through us.   This covers one bag per person and weight must be under 18 kilos.  Extra charges will apply for solo travellers and pets.  I'm afraid we can't arrange luggage transfer for independent walkers organising their own holiday.
