Good Afternoon,
Norfolk's historical ruins are just so different in autumn, and everywhere takes on a different feel.
Castle Rising Castle is one of my favourites at this time of year – the imposing ancient Norman walls look incredible as the leaves start to change and the light gets softer. I always take far too many photos here!
Castle Rising Castle is one of the largest, best preserved keeps in England with amazing earthworks and ramparts. Built in 1138 by William d'Albini for his new wife, this Norman masterpiece later became home to Queen Isabella (said to be a murderess!), widow of Edward II.
Autumn is the perfect time to visit! The summer crowds have dispersed, leaving you free to wander the imposing Norman architecture, sit quietly within the ruins of the Norman chapel, gaze across the surrounding countryside from inside the keep, or simply lose yourself in centuries of Norfolk history.
