Mushrooms on Toast in Norfolk!

Mushrooms on Toast!

Good Afternoon,

I’d been walking a very windy and icy cold stretch over Beeston Bump and the Roman Camp on the North Norfolk coast the other day and it was wonderful to come back down to sea level in Sheringham and pop into Whelk Coppers Tea Room, hidden slightly above the promenade. What more could I want that a steaming plate of absolutely delicious mushrooms on toast!

This is a great little café and one well worth stopping at. The moment I walked in (this wasn’t my first visit), I knew this place was special. Wooden beams, mismatched furniture, and the smell of freshly ground coffee which created the perfect shelter from the freezing January wind. I saw a plate of mushrooms being taken to another customer and thought – “Yup, that’s exactly what I need”! And it was! Sautéed mushrooms cooked with stilton on sourdough with rocket and red onion marmalade. Yum. Just the answer for a cold day.

That was one meal - bear with me!

The other wasn't a meal but a warming cup of coffee – a cappuccino as ever – think I’m becoming addicted to them! As I battled against the wind on this walk, I reached West Runton beach. Although the beach café is closed during the winter months, they do have a blue van in the car park serving coffees and cakes, and I have to say, the cappuccino was also delicious as I walked towards Beeston Bump, and something to keep my hands warm.

So next time you’re near West Runton and Sheringham, take a little detour to both of these places and treat yourself. Your taste buds will thank you!

Happy exploring!
