As the festive season approaches, Norfolk's fantastic heritage railways are gearing up to offer magical experiences that will transport you right back in time.

This week, I’m pleased to bring you a special feature on the world of heritage railways. These vintage trains, beautifully decorated with Christmas ornaments and lights, offer a wonderful opportunity for you and your family and friends to enjoy times together. Experience the magic of these historic locomotives as they transport you through Norfolk's unique landscapes, all the while embracing the spirit of Christmas.

The North Norfolk Railway, affectionately known as the "Poppy Line," is pulling out all the stops this year with their “Norfolk Lights Express” running from 5th November to early January, and their “Santa Special”, a must-do for families running from 23rd November to 23rd December. Imagine the delight on your children's faces as they meet Father Christmas at the beautifully decorated Weybourne Station. The carriages, with twinkling lights and Christmas decorations, provide a cosy setting as you chug along from Sheringham to Weybourne and back.

The Bure Valley Railway offers a 1 hour adventure departing from Aylsham Station. This Christmas treat includes festive refreshments, a nostalgic 30-minute steam train ride each way, and a special visit to Santa's grotto. The highlight for your children is the personal meeting with Father Christmas himself, who'll present each child with a specially chosen gift!

Finally, don't miss the Mid-Norfolk Railway's "Polar Express" bringing the well-loved children's book to life. This immersive journey from Dereham to the "North Pole" features singing, dancing, and hot chocolate served by dancing chefs. It will be a magical experience for believers of all ages!
